An Invitation to
LEICESTERSHIRE PLAYWRIGHTS
NEW PLAYS WORKSHOP
A showcase of new plays by both established and new playwrights
SATURDAY, SEPT. 21:
Thanks a Lot Elton a one-act romantic comedy by Maxine Linnell - Kevin and Sally are single and in their thirties. They 'meet' through the Internet, and weave elaborate fantasy stories about themselves so that they present an attractive picture. But will they ever really meet up?
Napoleon Bonaparte Came to Malta by Pat Ball - Set in a fortified house in Medina, one day three months after the 1798 invasion. A soldier and a working man plot an uprising, are interrupted by a French captain, a nobleman lawyer and a Knight surgeon, representing the former powers and joined by a peasant woman, a priest and an actress -- with lively results.
Leaving Home by Sylvia Campton - Elsie Carter, an elderly, arthritic widow, no longer able to take care of herself. She must be taken into an old person's home unless someone more able is persuaded to move in with her. Unfortunately, she does not seem likely to get on with the only candidate available.
SATURDAY, OCT. 12:
The Mouse a one-act by Arthur Aldrich - When Harold returns from the Accounts Office of Baxter's Textiles he leaves behind a well-trained bunch of female clerks and an efficient computer system. His successor the owner's grandson, is regarded as a bit of a mouse. But, in fact he is not the only mouse in the office and some mice bite!
Cruise to Egypt a one-act by Dana Bagshaw - four strangers think they are getting to know each other, when the unexpected happens. The workshop will help the playwright decide between two scripted endings. Should the unexpected event be: (a) a tragic incident or (b) a seriously silly incident ?
The Hump by Roy Iliffe - Archie Archibald is happy living with his crabby, old mother. His life changes when he receives an unexpected invitation to meet TV celebrity, Serena Blankhead.
