Programme notes from the playwright:

After winning the Radius 2000 award, scenes of Margery Kempe and Julian of Norwich were introduced in June 2001 at the Covent Gardens Theatre Museum as a 45-minute reading between the two women only. Tonight's director, Arthur Aldrich of the Leicestershire Playwrights, strongly encouraged me to expand the play to include Margery's husband, John, who is having his debut tonight, much to my delight. We have also added a few of the many supporting male characters Margery encountered in her adventures. I hope the characters, so aptly played by this fine ensemble of actors, will speak to you tonight as they have to me.
